Founded by Jim and Kita Wright, Walking H Saddle Shop carries on a deep family legacy of ranching in southern New Mexico and southern Arizona. For generations, the Wright family has lived and worked in the heart of the Southwest, where Jim’s family still proudly uses the Walking H to brand their cattle. Jim and Kita are honored to continue this heritage, infusing each piece they create with the authenticity and history of their family’s ranching roots.
Jim Wright’s journey in saddle making began with formal training at OSU-Tech Boot and Saddle-Making School in Okmulgee, OK with instructor Mike Dewitt. Followed by an invaluable internship at National Saddlery in Oklahoma City Stockyards, where he worked under the mentorship of John Rule. This experience refined his skills and reinforced his commitment to quality craftsmanship.
In 2023, Jim and Kita took a significant step in their saddle-making journey by acquiring tools and equipment from James and Sharon Morris of Morris Saddlery. James Morris is a well known and respected saddle maker that has been serving El Paso and southern New Mexico for over 50 years. With this purchase, Jim and Kita are honored to continue the tradition of exceptional custom leather work and saddle making in the Southwest.
